How to set up a 1v1 private server in CS2

Anytime you need to 1v1 a friend in CS2, use this guide for the easiest way to do it.

The process of making a private server in CS2 is pretty easy only if you know how to do it. But since it can get complicated, and because you have to give up your IP, we recommend only 1v1ing players you trust. We’ll go over everything you need to do, step by step, below.

How to play 1v1 in CS2

To play a 1v1 with your friend in CS2, you’ll need to first make a private server for you both to play in. To do that:

  • Find the settings in the top left.
  • Go to Game option
  • Scroll to Enable Developer Console (~) and switch it to Yes.
  • Leave your settings
  • Press ~
    • This is right under the Esc key
  • Type map X
    • Instead of X, put the name of the map you want, so map de_inferno, map de_dust2_vanity, etc.

You’ll see that you’ve been moved into a server by yourself with nine bots. Next, you have to kick the bots. Press ~ again and type in bot_kick for all the bots to be removed. You’ll now be alone and ready for your friend to join.

Your friend must now open their console and type connect xxx.xxx.x.x:xxxxx, but replace the x’s with your IP address. If you don’t know your IP address, open your console and type status. You’ll see your IP in brackets right under Server: Running.

From there, feel free to tweak settings. The following can be modified by replacing x with whatever number you want:

  • mp_buytime x.xx
  • mp_freezetime x
  • mp_roundtime_defuse x.x
  • mp_startmoney xxxx
  • mp_warmup_end x

By modifying the above, you can modify your game settings. You won’t need to change anything if you just want a common 1v1 since the default settings are enough.

For more maps, we recommend using the below if you ever want to change scenery:

  • cs_italy_vanity
  • de_anubis_vanity
  • de_nuke
  • de_anubis
  • de_inferno_vanity
  • de_mirage_vanity
