Force Field Umbral Gem puzzle solution in Baldur’s Gate 3

When I first came across this Shar Umbral Gem puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, I was lost and confused. I spend a long time trying to figure out how to penetrate the force field and obtain the Umbral Gem in the middle. Luckily, I found the solution so you don’t need to waste any more time.

If you defeated the three Throm bosses with just correct dialogue options, you’ll remember that Shar is the goddess of night. That should be a big hint as to how to solve this Gauntlet of Shar Umbral Gem puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3.

To solve this puzzle, all you need to do is extinguish all eight Mystic Thuribles that provide purple light to the room. Once the room is dark, the answer will be revealed.

To extinguish the Mystic Thuribles, you need to go to all four corners of the room and pull the levers next to the sarcophaguses.

However, you really need to watch out for the trap just before every sarcophagus room. There is a long and narrow trap that blocks the entire entrance to each sarcophagus room, and if you trip it, the entire room will be flooded with black fog that deals significant damage to you. Turn-Mode is enabled immediately.

Avoid the trap by jumping over it. If you do accidentally hit the trap like I did, I found the best way to avoid all damage was to have all your characters use jump first to get as fast as possible, and then walk toward the door on the left or right. There should be a little space there that’s safe for you to wait out the black fog. If not, have your entire party attack the door so you can escape the black fog in one of the side rooms.

Okay, now you know about the traps and how to avoid them. All you need to do now is pull all four levers in all four corners of the room. Extinguish all eight Mystic Thuribles that drop. Once all eight are extinguished, and you put away any light source you have like a Moonlantern, you’ll see a purple outline on the ground.

The purple outline is the force field bubble that keeps you from getting the Umbral Gem in the middle. Walk through the openings in the purple outline to reach the middle. Interact with the Umbral Gem and the magical seal on the Stone Door will be removed. You can now continue forward deeper into the Mausoleum.
