The secret to unlocking Whiteout in Vampire Survivors

Upon starting the game post-update, you’ll notice a new task in your Unlocks menu: Collect 20 Orologions to unlock Hyper Whiteout. This is a typo, since this task is required to unlock the base version of the Whiteout stage, and not just the Hyper version

In any case, collecting 20 Orologions is a very reasonable task. Orologions are items that can drop randomly from light sources on any map in the game, and they have the effect of freezing all enemies on-screen for a limited time. It’s easy enough to amass 20 Orologions naturally over the course of a few runs, but if you really want to get it done quickly you can use the Seal power up to remove every other item from the light source drop pool, all but guaranteeing you Orologions with every one you hit. You can also play on Moongolow, a stage rich in light sources, and use the Greatest Jubilee weapon, which creates additional light sources, for an extra boost.

It’s worth noting that this task seems to be bugged in this early stage. When I checked it in my unlocks menu, it said that I’d collected over 500 Orologions, but Whiteout didn’t unlock for me until I entered a stage, collected another, and then finished that run. You may need to do this as well if you’re a long-time player diving into this new update.

In any case, once you’ve collected 20 Orologions, Whiteout will be unlocked for you to play. It’s a fairly simple stage, consisting of a wide open plain and a few caves, and the enemies come with two debuffs: they move slowly, and are weak to fire. This makes Whieout unusual among Vampire Survivors’ Challenge stages, which tend to make things harder rather than easier, but some tough waves and a tricky dual-wolf mini-boss later on mean it’s still far from a pushover.

And there you have it: a full guide on how to unlock Whiteout in Vampire Survivors. This is a fun new stage with plenty for you to discover, including the Antidote Relic for the Defang power up, and the new Glass Fandango weapon. Once you’ve gathered the required Orologions, strap on your snowshoes and get ready for some winter survival.
