Currently, owing to the fact that The Outlast Trials is only available on one platform, PC, there is no cross-play option available for the title. However, Red Barrels has both a console release and cross-play support in the pipeline. This was established in a tweet from the developer on April 19 of this year:

“For everyone asking about consoles, we are working to have The Outlast Trials be playable on as many platforms as possible with cross-platform play but no cross-progression. This will take time and we aim to have this for full launch, but it won’t be available for EA (Early Access).”

This tweet gives a lot of insight into the development timeline of The Outlast Trials, and essentially promises cross-play support as soon as the game releases on other platforms. Interestingly, this won’t include cross-progression, which presumably means that players who advance in the game’s storyline when playing with a friend will need to do so again in their own copy of the game. This is an inconvenience to be sure, but hopefully the new quick-fire episodic structure of the game will soften the blow somewhat, and possibly even encourage multiple playthroughs within the same playgroup if the game proves replayable enough.

The Outlast Trials is available now via Steam Early Access.
