Lords of the Fallen: How to use your Umbral Lamp

Hold your lantern aloft, Dark Crusader.

Lords of the Fallen hosts an excellent feature: the Umbral realm. Coexisting alongside Axiom, the Umbral realm carries in it the woes, terrors, and aftermath of Adyr’s tyranny. Your Umbral Lamp is not just a token of office, but it’s a tool that you’ll be using a lot as you make your way to ensure Adyr does not return. Here is how to use your Umbral Lamp in Lords of the Fallen.

Soulflaying in Lords of the Fallen

Soulflaying is a tool and a way to seriously hurt your enemies. With the Umbral Lamp active, click M2, RT, or R2 to perform a Soulflay. When in the Umbral realm, certain obstacles and structures can be broken or interacted with through the Soulflay. Simply lock on and hit the button. When using your Umbral Lamp to Soulflay an obstacle or interact with something, no Soulflay charges are spent.

You can use the same trick on enemies in Axiom (note that Soulflaying doesn’t affect Umbral enemies!). By Soulflaying, their soul will be ripped from their bodies, and they’ll be pulled forth and fall in slow-motion. You can use this time to push around their bodies or attack their soul.

Each attack applies lots of wither damage, so when their soul returns, just hit them one more time to inflict massive damage. A kick is usually good here, as it’s quick. Soulflaying enemies does cost a Soulflay charge, however.

Siphoning in Lords of the Fallen

Siphoning has lots of benefits in Lords of the Fallen. To Siphon, hold your lamp aloft and hold M1, RB, or R1. Siphoning enemies in Axiom (again, this does not affect Umbral enemies!) will slowly generate a Soulflay charge and will provide some withered health. You can only Siphon one enemy so much before you’ll have to Siphon another. In the Umbral realm, you can find Umbral blisters that you can Siphon for lots of withered health and Soulflay charge generation.

Siphoning is also used to destroy Umbral parasites that make enemies invulnerable.

This provides a great way to not only use your Soulflay more often, but also for health generation. Siphoning a group of enemies before you attack them could restore your health from critical condition to full, and it provides an alternative to your precious Sanguinarix.

Rifting in Lords of the Fallen

In Lords of the Fallen, when you die, you shift into the Umbral realm, to live a little longer. You can shift voluntarily, however, to get past obstacles in Axiom and to interact with things in the Umbral realm. To shift, hold your lantern up and hold Q, X, or Square.

Remember your time here is limited, and if you die in the Umbral realm, you’ll actually die this time. So only shift when you need to.

Planting a Vestige Seedling in Lords of the Fallen

If you’ve got your hands on a Vestige Seed, then you’re in luck. Across Axiom, in the Umbral realm, lie Umbral flowerbeds. If you plant a Vestige Seed into these flowerbeds, by holding F, Y, or Triangle, then it will grow into a Vestige Seedling.

You will have to locate the flowerbed using your Umbral Lamp, but it’ll glow and moths will appear if one is nearby. These essentially act as a Vestige, except only one can be active at a time.

I hope we’ve cleared things up for you. The Umbral Lamp can be a little confusing, but it’s a great tool that you need to exploit! For even more Lords of the Fallen assistance, visit PC Invasion.
