With Planetside 2 doing rather well it seems a little pointless to pump a load of development resources into the old Planetside. SOE has now decided that the original game will go free to play and will no longer receive any development updates. The news comes on the back of the closure of a number of SOE MMOs.

SOE has now revealed their new All Access membership system for current titles which will be rolled out on 2 April and brings the following benefits.

  • Claim 500 Station Cash monthly from within the game marketplaces.
  • Receive a 10% discount on marketplace purchases.
  • Gain access to exclusive promotions and offers throughout the year.

A monthly fee of $14.99 (reduced from $19.99) will give you all of the above and access to the top-tier titles including EverQuestEverQuest IIDC Universe Online PC, PlanetSide 2 PC,  and the upcoming EverQuest Next and EQN Landmark.

The revised system is not entirely complete and SOE say they will be “finalising membership benefits to other games such as Dragon’s Prophet” at some point in the future.

On 2 April all payers with existing memberships will find their accounts are upgraded to the new plan and it’s not a bad deal if you plan on playing EverQuest Next and EQN Landmark.
