Pokemon Go Eeveelution guide: How to get all Eevee evolutions

Eeveelution is a science

Eevee is one of those enigmatic Pokemon that has multiple Evolutions. Dubbed “Eeveelutions” by players, Eevees can evolve into different forms when specific requirements are met. So, how does it work? There’s a trick to get each Eeveelution once, and after that, a different method to get them in the future. I’ll explain everything in our Pokemon Go Eeveelution guide: How to get all Eevee evolutions.

Eevee is unique as it will evolve into an Eeveelution with just 25 Eevee Candies. If you simply evolve an Eevee, it will randomly become one of the 3 Gen 1 Eeveelutions: Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon.

If you’re just after Pokedex completion, you can use a neat trick to get every Eeveelution, but this only works once.

The Naming method

If you change the nickname of your Eevee, you can choose what it will become when it evolves. You still need 25 Eevee Candy each time, but these are the names you’ll need for each Eeveelution:

  • Flareon – Pyro
  • Jolteon – Sparky
  • Vaporeon – Rainer
  • Espeon – Sakura
  • Umbreon – Tamao
  • Leafeon – Linnea
  • Glaceon – Rea
  • Sylveon – Kira

Fear not, Trainers, as you can still target specific Eeveelutions after you’ve used the nicknames. But first, let’s get the bad news out of the way.

There’s no way to guarantee specific Gen 1 Eeveelutions. It costs 25 Candy to evolve an Eevee, and it will randomly become Jolteon, Flareon, or Vaporeon.

Fortunately, there are specific things you can do to guarantee the rest. Here’s how you get each remaining Eeveelution:

Umbreon

Walk with an Eevee as your buddy for 10km, then evolve it at night. It’s worth noting that night in Pokemon Go starts at 8PM. Ensure you evolve Eevee when it’s still your buddy. There are reports of this not working if Eevee hasn’t given you 2 Candies, but if you’ve walked 10km with Eevee without swapping, it should be fine.

Espeon

Espeon works almost identically to Umbreon. Walk 10km with Eevee as your buddy and evolve it during the daytime. Don’t swap buddies until you’ve completed the Eeveelution and your Eevee has given you two candies.

Leafeon

Apply a Mossy Lure to a Pokestop, then evolve your Eevee. Double-check the available Eeveelutions when you do this. If you only see a question mark, it won’t work. If you use the question mark option, you’ll get either Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon.

Glaceon

Apply a Glacial Lure to a Pokestop and then evolve Eevee. As with Leafeon, don’t use the question mark button if you don’t want a Gen 1 Eeveelution.

Sylveon

Make an Eevee your buddy and earn 70 hearts with them before evolving. This isn’t difficult, but it can take a while. You can acquire up to 12 buddy hearts daily, so this will take most Trainers about a week.

You can earn buddy hearts through the following activities:

  • Walking with your buddy
  • Feeding them treats like Berries
  • Taking snapshots of your buddy in AR mode
  • Battling in Raids, PvP, and against Team Rocket with your Eevee
  • Playing together
  • Visiting new Pokestops

That’s how to make every Eeveelution in Pokemon Go. If you’re fortunate enough to have a Shiny Eevee, their Eeveelutions will be Shiny, too!
