Ability Shield Mesagoza City Delibird Presents Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Pokémon abilities are extremely important, and are the sole reason why some Pokémon are so popular. Certain abilities determine a Pokémon’s use in battle even more so than their typing and moveset. However, abilities can be changed via various means, which can be problematic. Thankfully, there’s an item to help prevent that. Here’s our guide on how to get the Ability Shield in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to get Ability Shield in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Those who have played Pokémon for a while will know the importance of abilities. While some powerful Pokémon like Haxorus and Zapdos don’t rely on their abilities, others depend on them to be relevant. For example, Bombirdier’s Rocky Payload and Murkrow’s Prankster are essentially required to use either Pokémon in any meaningful way.

However, there are ways for your opponent to remove these abilities and handicap your team. The best way to avoid this is to use an Ability Shield, which is a held item in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. With an Ability Shield equipped, ability-alternating moves such as Entrainment and Skill Swap will not work.

In singles formats, it’s up for debate how useful using an Ability Shield is. Truthfully, there are usually better options than using a turn to mess with your opponent. Although, if using a Pokémon with a hindering ability, like Slaking’s Truant, it can be worth getting rid of it. However, in doubles formats, ability swapping is more common, and therefore protecting your Pokémon from it can be worthwhile.

To get the Ability Shield in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet you need to buy one from the Delibird Presents shop for $20,000. It can only be purchased from the Mesagoza branch of Delibird Presents located in the West of Paldea’s capital city. After purchasing one, you can use the Ability Shield by having a Pokémon of choice hold it.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
