After completing the Ukouh Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to use a rail to get to the next area. Though, later in the game, there are numerous ways to bypass the rail or use it in different ways, there are only three ways to use the rail to get to the other side in the early stages of Tears of the Kingdom. If you’ve forgotten what you’ve learned in the Ukouh Shrine, we’re here to help you use the rail in Great Sky Island.

How to use the rail in Tears of the Kingdom
There are three ways to use the rail in the Great Sky Island: use the hook and platform, use just the hook, or walk across. I recommend using the hook and platform technique as that is the safest route, but the hook technique and walk technique are other creative options you can try.

The hook and platform technique requires you to use Ultrahand to grab a hook and attach it to a wooden platform. Once the hook and platform are attached, Ultrahand the hook and place it on the rail. Release the hook and jump onto the platform. And just like that, you’ll safely glide down the rail while on the platform.
I prefer this method as it is fairly easy to do and is the safest way down. Standing on the wooden platform while the hook follows the rail down is a nice ride to the next plateau.

The next technique you can try is just the hook method. To do this, simply Ultrahand a hook and place it on the rail. Then, before the hook picks up too much steam, jump onto the hook. Link will hold onto the hook as long as he has stamina, which you’ll have enough stamina to make it to the next plateau.
The hook only technique is for adventurous people who like to live life on the edge. It’s not the joyride the hook and platform technique provides, but it is quick and thrilling.

The last way you can use the rail to get across the floating islands is by walking across. This technique doesn’t require Ultrahand, but it does require a steady hand. Climb up the post and onto the rail. Then, carefully walk along the rail to the next plateau. It sounds easy, but it’s not.
While this technique is a possibility, I don’t recommend it because it is hard to perform and will see you falling a lot. If you’re up for a challenge, you can try walking across. If you succeed, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you did something only few people can do.
