Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters – How to collect seeds

Landing critical hits

You’ll learn about how to collect seeds in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters during an early-game mission. In it, Inquisitor Vakir tells you about the origins of Nurgle’s plague and how she intends to find its source. From this point onwards, you’ll notice a few mobs with unique icons (seen in the image below).

Killing these seed carriers outright, especially with ranged weapons, would be a problem, as doing so won’t net you any seeds at all. Instead, you’ll need to land a critical melee hit to trigger the Precision Targeting System. If successful, the target’s body parts will be shown. Simply select the part with the seed icon to harvest the item.

Note 1: An easy way of scoring a critical hit is by using the Hammerhand ability, which has a 100% chance to crit. Classes like the Justicar, Interceptor, and Paladin are able to unlock this. You may also equip weapons and wargear that increase your crit rate.

Note 2: If the killing blow on a carrier is also a crit, then you’ll receive the seed automatically.

Sending an Extractor Servo Skull and various techs

Two techs can also help you collect seeds in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters. The first is called “Advanced Seed Access.” This gives +1 seed, as well as an Extractor Servo-Skull.

While various classes can equip a Servo Skull, this one is better off when used by your Apothecary (due to the extra slots and ammo). The Extractor Servo Skull can then be sent out to harvest seeds from a carrier without the need to stun them.

Just below “Advanced Seed Access” is another tech called “Advanced Seed Extraction.” Once you have this, you’ll gain an extra seed for each one that you obtain.

Random pustulent growths

You may also acquire seeds by exploring the map to find pustulent growths. When you interact with these at close range, they have a chance of erupting and dropping the item. Just don’t take too long when roaming around an area due to Warp Surge debuffs.

More types of seeds

You’ll only need to contend with Poxus, the green seed, at the start of the campaign in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters. Later, once you’re done with a main mission called The Nexus, additional strains of the plague will be revealed. Depending on the type of strain that’s active on a planet, you could see certain kinds of enemy mutations/buffs, and Warp Surge debuffs:

Strain/Color Enemy Mutations/Buffs Warp Surge Debuff
Dolorus (Red) Damage bonuses Inflict damage
Mortus (Blue) Willpower drain Psychic ability interference
Necrosus (Yellow) Armor bonuses Negate attacks and defenses
Tentarus (Purple) HP bonuses Additional mutations and Bloomspawns

Seed usage

Try to collect as many seeds during missions in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters. Doing so will aid you further in the campaign. For reference, seeds are used to upgrade weapons, armors, and other equipment. Certain seed types are used depending on the upgrade that you want to select.

And, as mentioned earlier, seeds are the currency used in research, including techs that provide new Strategems. Lastly, the bottom-right row of techs has several options that can be unlocked. These refer to five bosses that need to be defeated later in the game.
