Balatro: Mult and Mult Cards, explained

Mult in Balatro is short for multiplier. I guess multiplier is too long of a word, so the Balatro devs went with Mult.

The gameplay of Balatro is you play the best Poker Hand you have. The total Chips get tallied and then get multiplied by the Mult number. The total is how many Chips you keep. The goal is to beat the Blind as fast as possible so you can get as much Cash as you can.

While increasing your Chips is important, you’ll earn many more Chips if you have a higher Mult. One of the main ways your Mult increases is by getting Mult Cards. There are dozens of ways to get Mult Cards in Balatro, or rather turn your cards into Mult Cards, but let’s start with the definition.

A Mult Card is a type of Enhancement Card. There are eight Enhancement Cards in Balatro and they are applied to cards in your existing deck. You turn cards into Enhancement Cards with special cards like Jokers, Tarots, and Planets. The Mult Card Enhancement adds a plus four to the Mult when played.

For example, if you have a Mult Card Seven of Hearts, you’ll get the seven Chips that always come with a Seven, but you’ll also add four to your Mult for that hand’s scoring. Once you’ve scored that hand, the Chips and Mult return to zero until you play Poker Hands.

That’s how Mults and Mult Cards work in Balatro. It’s confusing at first, but once you master it, you’ll reach higher and higher Antes in Balatro.
