Hold on to your hats, because this reveal is a biggie. The first faction revealed by Creative Assembly for Total War: Rome II is … yes, it’s Rome! Contain your surprise, you dreadful cynics.
Ok, that faction reveal might be a bit of a given, but the developers have more faction details planned for a staggered release over the coming weeks. You can keep tabs on the ones shown so far on the ‘Faction Hub’ (otherwise known as a wiki page), here. The layout of that page suggests that there’ll be eight major factions in total, but I may be reading too much into that.
The factions will be drawn from “Greco-Roman, Barbarian, and Eastern cultures” and all will have their own agents, political systems, tech trees and military styles.
Rome is split into “a number of playable families,” which can add further benefits to their base faction traits.
Total War: Rome II is set to be one of the big PC releases of next year, scheduled for October 2013.
