Overwatch cheating bans now being dished out by Blizzard

Overwatch players who have taken to using “hacks” are now being permanently penalised, banned from the game in other words.

Accounts deemed to be cheating by Blizzard’s anti-cheat system are today being notified by customer service that their accounts are being removed and permanently banned.

Earlier this month Blizzard announced they were not going to mess about when it comes to banning players and a first offense could see an account closed. They appear to have stayed true to their word and this first wave of bannings should be a deterrent to anyone thinking about using a hack. Here’s a quick reminder of their official stance on cheating.

“A player is found to be cheating—or using hacks, bots, or third-party software that provides any sort of unfair advantage—that player will be permanently banned from the game. Full stop. Not only does cheating undermine the spirit of fair play that all of our products are based on, but it works to diminish the fun and enjoyment of others. While we are unlikely to publicly acknowledge when accounts are closed as a result of cheating or using unauthorized programs, we have and will continue to monitor Overwatch for exploitative behavior, as well as take action as needed to preserve the integrity of game.”

In order for Overwatch to succeed they need to be hot on this due to the nature of the gameplay so let’s hope they keep it up.
