2012 was a big year for videogame projects on Kickstarter with more new games looking for funding every month as the year rolled on. Kickstarter has released some of the facts and figures for the past twelve months this evening and it makes for some interesting reading.

In total there were 2,796 games (including board games) looking for funding last year and 911 managed to reach their target goals, which may be less than many expected to see as we usually only hear of the success stories. In total $83,144,565 was raised for gaming projects with a total through a total of 1,378,143 pledges. It’s a lot of cash that’s without a doubt going to help new and more established developers continue their work.

There’s no doubt Kickstarter has had a huge impact on the gaming scene, and thanks to the site, we’re going to see all sorts of excellent looking games be independently released such as Elite Dangerous, GODUS, Star Citizen and the Double Fine Adventure. Let’s hope 2013 brings some more  new and interesting titles.
