Yesterday’s announcement of an announcement pointed towards a “major” bit of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain news on Wednesday, but it looks to have appeared today instead.
Somebody at IGN got a bit overeager (or sloppy with hiding URLs,) and the announcement video with Hideo Kojima escaped onto the internet for a bit. It got pulled, but it’s going to be impossible to stuff that digital data back inside a box at this point.
The headline news in the video is that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s worldwide release date is 1 September. Unless this is an incredibly elaborate ruse to ‘leak’ a fake date ahead of time to mess with people. If that’s the case … well played, everyone.
As you can see from the image above the announcement card doesn’t distinguish between platforms, so at the moment we can hope that the PC version will be showing up in September too. That part isn’t confirmed, and you never know when a PC release might be delayed later than the console ones. For now though, there’s no word on that happening.
Edit 4 March: There is now, though. The PC version will be out 15 September.
