EA has announced the creation of a dedicated eSports division following a move already taken by Activision Blizzard back in October.
EA’s Peter Moore will be taking charge of the Competitive Gaming Division (CGD) in his new role as Executive Vice President and Chief Competition Officer for EA.
With games such as Battlefield, FIFA and Madden on their books EA will be focusing on these titles to get the operation started. Key goals will include creating engaging competition experiences, grow their community of players and develop live events and broadcasting.
Moore will be backed up by Todd Sitrin who has been with EA for the last fourteen years working with their global marketing teams.
Now that EA will be pushing hard into the area of eSports we may see more games announced in the future with a competitive element that fits their goals. The MOBA is a genre that’s eluding EA right now after a few unsuccessful attempts, most recently with Dawngate which didn’t make it out of beta. They’ll probably have another crack at it in the future I’m sure.
