Germany gamers have had a tough times with games, what with blood removal, green blood and bans. Violent videogames have not gone down well in the past.
Common sense is finally prevailing in Germany and Bethesda were over the moon today when they announced via Twitter that the new Doom will be released completely uncut in Germany. This is a first for the series.
In a statement to Polygon, Bethesda’s Pete Hines shared their joy.
“Perhaps not all that surprising given how other titles have been rated there recently, but still a cool thing to see given that Doom and Doom 2 were banned in Germany and were delisted a few years ago.”
The previous two Doom games were not available in Germany until 2011 and it’s becoming apparent that the German censors are finally coming to terms with some of the more violent videogames. If a game was banned, the ban would last for a whopping ten years after which there could be a request for a review.
It seems fitting that the German USK rating board are starting to relax what with Germany holding the world’s biggest consumer videogame show Gamescom every year.
German gamers can get stuck into Doom along with the rest of us on 13 May.
