Dead or Alive 5 PC version gets free-to-play Core Fighters mode

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round updated itself to version 1.08A last night, introducing the ‘Core Fighters’ free-to-play mode to the Steam PC edition. The free version gives you access to four “fan favourite” fighters (Ayane, Hayate, Kasumi, and Ryu Hayabusa) and “nearly every” game mode.

In addition, this pre-announcement post notes that Mila is going to be free to use between 3 October and 30 October too. Those who play the free-to-play version and wish to unlock other characters (or the story mode) can do so with, yes, you already guessed it, DLC. Dead or Alive 5 isn’t a stranger to DLC, since it has (according to calculations performed by PC Invasion’s chief mathematician Tim McDonald) £807.80 worth on there. Most of that being frilly shorts and the like, of course.

Unfortunately, Dead or Alive 5 on PC is still not on par with the latest console versions. Lobby matches are absent, as are several stages, and various graphical features.
