Danish developer Full Control announced today that Jagged Alliance: Flashback has launched on Steam Early Access. Besides being able to influence the development of the game at an early stage, the game includes an editor that gives users the opportunity to build their own campaigns, as well as distributing mods through Steam Workshop. Originally funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign in May 2013, where it received over $350,000 from backers Jagged Alliance: Flashback has been in development since June 2013 and is due for full commercial launch in late 2014.

“The launch of Jagged Alliance: Flashback on Steam Early Access is a significant milestone in our vision to bring back the beloved turn-based franchise to its roots,” said Thomas Lund, CEO of Full Control. “We’re excited to launch the game on Steam Early Access and can’t wait to see what the Jagged Alliance community will build with the Editor.”

The Early Access version will include a small island to conquer and explore, turn-based combat and a few dialogues and quests. The combat system makes use of diverse cover, true line of sight calculations and different stances to provide a deep tactical experience for the player. Additional features will be added to the game throughout the Early Access phase.

A unique mix of deep turn-based tactics, role-playing and squad management, Jagged Alliance: Flashback is set on the fictional Caribbean Island of San Hermanos in the late 1980’s.

An elected president – “The Prince”, uses his military forces to halt a rebellious group attempting to overthrow his regime. Powerless against his organised military forces, the leader of the rebellion is arrested and the insurgents quickly dissolve. Arriving on San Hermanos, the players first mission is to help the rebel leader escape from prison, before things take a turn for the worse.
