Big news for The Witcher fans and pretty much anyone anticipating a game from CD Projekt Red. It looks like it’s not just Cyberpunk 2077 that we’ll be looking forward to but also another RPG. That’s what we’ve learned from the recent CDPR financials stream, where it was announced that Thronebreaker, the story mode for Gwent, will now be a full-fledged RPG. It will be titled Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.
From Gwent to Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales
When we last heard of Thronebreaker, we knew that it was simply the story mode for the card game. You can see that from the teaser video above. It’s a means to flesh out the lore and the setting, providing a narrative for what is nominally a pick-up-and-play genre. The story is centered on Meve, a Northern Queen who marches to war. However, from CDPR’s latest stream, it seems that it would become much more than that. That’s thanks to Reddit user Apero_ who was able to diligently compile clips from the announcement.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will be completely standalone from Gwent. Players won’t even need to have downloaded Gwent to play it because it will be a separate purchase. If you do own Gwent, you can link your accounts for both games.
The title promises to have around 30 hours of gameplay, and we’re sure that players cannot wait to get their hands on it. After all the hours spent on The Witcher series, many would be eager to return to its world once more. Thronebreaker is expected to launch alongside the full release of Gwent which is still in its beta stage.
