Grid 2019

GRID by Codemasters is getting a reboot for September 2019

There’s no shame in starting over. The gaming industry has not been shy about following that philosophy for quite some time now. Hence, there’s been a very consistent trend of reboots and remakes that have sprung up over the years. Now, another one is joining the list, and it’s one most race fans are sure to know well: GRID.

Back to the starting line

The reveal trailer for the new game also adheres to that same thinking, as it’s shot entirely in reverse, signaling that Codemasters is bringing the series back to square one for its latest outing:

Codemasters’ critically-acclaimed racing series is speeding into the current generation with a completely new coat of paint. This isn’t a return of the original, but rather a return to the original. The the brand new game bears the exact same name as the original GRID, though this is realistically the fourth entry in the series. Regardless, one should expect it to be another boost in the realm of racing simulators, as Codemasters has long been cemented as one of the most renowned studios in the genre.

That said, no actual gameplay has been shown in this trailer, nor has any gameplay details been provided. Even so, pre-orders are already open for those of you that want to be front-and-center at the starting line on September 13, 2019, when the new game launches. Considering that E3 is about three weeks away at this point, it’s likely that we’ll be getting a much closer look at the actual game at that time.

The GRID series got its start over a decade ago back on the PS3 and 360. It was followed up by GRID 2 in 2013 and then GRID Autosport just a year later. So, that makes five years since the last entry in the series—it’s certainly been a long time coming.
