There are a number of reasons why a video game’s development might get delayed. It could need more time for the development team to polish and finish up the experience they’ve been crafting. In recent times, we’ve seen more shifts in company culture, with development teams also now delaying some titles to avoid the haste and stress of development crunch. In this case, there might have been multiple reasons behind the delay for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Whatever the case, it will now launch outside of its previously anticipated Q1 2020 window.
Shedding some light on the situation (but not too much)
It’s rather surprising that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be delayed. Even as recently as a week ago, the development team revealed additional info regarding the game’s clans and factions. It was then that the team introduced the fifth and final faction, The Unseen.
In a blog post, the development detailed more about the decision to delay the launch, shedding some light on how long they’ve been working on their bloodsucking sequel. The blog post notes, “For the last three and a half years, we’ve worked hard to bring you a worthy successor to Bloodlines 1.” It goes on to say, “Today, we have to tell you that we need some more time to get you the game you’ve been waiting for.”
Avoiding previous mistakes
Reading more into the blog post for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, it’s very apparent that the team is using the time to polish and tweak its systems. More importantly, they want to avoid mistakes that were made in Bloodlines 1.
The Hardsuit Labs team writes, “On the flip side, there’s the responsibility to avoid some of the issues that plagued the first game, which was famously launched too early. Over the last few months, it became clear that to stick to our original date would risk repeating that mistake.”
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is now slated for release sometime in 2020, avoiding its previous Q1 2020 launch window.
