One of the series that touched millions was Microsoft’s own Zoo Tycoon. Fast-forward to now, and it’s inspired successor Planet Zoo made by Frontier has brought the sim zoo management genre to the modern generation.
Planet Zoo tasks players with taking care of various animal species from around the globe. These include small creatures like monkeys, to large behemoths like giraffes and lions. In addition to caring for every critter that you decide to adopt, you also have the option to build, sculpt, and shape your zoo’s landscape as you see fit. Terraform the environment to your liking and construct complex habitats that fit the tastes of each animal species. There’s also an ever-growing wealth of user-generated content that can be found on the Steam Workshop. This can make the process of building your zoo even faster, in addition to giving players the opportunity to share their own original creations with the rest of the world.
Planet Zoo is currently on sale temporarily for $35.99, which is a 20% discount from its usual price. In addition to that, the Deluxe Edition has also received a temporary discount that drops the price down to $41.24. The Deluxe Edition of Planet Zoo features three exclusive animal types: the Pygmy Hippo, Thomson’s Gazelle, and Komodo Dragon. You’ll also get the original soundtrack for the game which includes 18 tracks, along with a set of wallpapers that feature artwork from the game. Existing customers can also buy the Deluxe Upgrade Pack separately at another 20% discount for $9.59.
If you plan on picking up Planet Zoo, keep in mind that it’s quite a hefty title to run. Minimum system requirements call for an Intel i5-2500/AMD FX-6350 and an Nvidia GTX 770 (2GB)/AMD Radeon R9 270X (2GB).
