Freeplay is going to be permakill harsh with only one life to live. You may choose to survive as long as possible, or attempt to get out of there alive, collecting as many resources along the way.
The freeplay area will be bigger than PVP, and while there are no limits to how long you play, there are limits to how many players can be in a map.
