Observers may remember the game suffering from the transition from 7th to 8th gen consoles when it launched, and missing expectations of 5 to 6 million units, selling only 3.4 million.

Since then, the game went through to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and so it has made its money back within two years via these ports.

Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher shared this statement:

Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level. The game’s incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players. Our studio is proud of what we accomplished with the game.
