Gears of War: Ultimate Edition For PC Is Not A Port

It’s what many of us fear: That a great game will become terrible once it hits PC. While we don’t have a monopoly on getting shoddy ports, those of us who rely solely on our computers for our gaming tend to be wary of newer releases. That shouldn’t be the case with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson addressed this concern during their SDCC panel, noting that the PC version will support 4k resolution, DirectX 12, unlocked frame rate and all the Windows 10 features including Xbox Live, GameDVR and screenshots. It will not just be a port from the Xbox One version, like the 2007 release had been with the Xbox 360.

The Ultimate Edition release will be greatly enhanced, featuring a higher level of detail. It will also include an additional five chapters. These chapters – originally intended for the 2007 version but ultimately cut due to time constraints – have been integrated into the campaign and will add roughly two hours’ worth of content.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is set for a late August 2015 release, and Fergusson says it’s worth going back to while waiting for the Holiday 2016 Gears of War 4 release.
