Aquanox Deep Descent’s Kickstarter Is Live!

The last time we saw anything from the Aquanox series was back in 2003. Now, the Aquanox Development Team – composed of Digital Arrow and Nordic Games – wants to bring it back. They think the concept of a submarine shooter/sim is far too interesting to just allow to die off, and we’re tempted to agree. Enter Aquanox Deep Descent.

What DA and Nordic are after is a re-imagining of the unique underwater gameplay that Aquanox is known for. They’ll be giving the Kickstarter backers the power to vote on which stretch goals get prioritized, as well as the usual alpha and beta access to help further develop the game.

They’re not just shoving us into the water and calling it a day, though. The assets and research from an unreleased THQ underwater action game are going into this project, which sounds like a good move since they’re gunning for the biggest Aquanox game yet. It’s also come quite far since its Unreal Engine 3 days, making the transition from murky to stunning in Unreal Engine 4.

Aquanox Deep Descent

Aquanox Deep Descent is not meant to be a direct sequel to the original games, but instead is built on the foundations established by them. The Aquanox Team is confident enough to call it “a world worth exploring”: An unexplored deep sea environment where life is far from what we know it to be right now; a dystopian world with a complex multi-layered economy, and equally complex characters whose problems shape the narrative.

Deep Descent will allow you to customize your ships and fight in a way that suits your play style, while exploring the depths of the ocean. Play cooperatively with up to 3 other players, or go into PVP mode with multiplayer, Deathmatch, and Team Dogfights.

The Aquanox Deep Descent Kickstarter is up and running, currently sitting at roughly $28,000 of their $75,000 goal with 22 days to go. Check out their backer rewards and see if you’d like to get in on the underwater action! The game’s estimated delivery is in February 2017.
