Dying Light 2 delayed february 2022

A Dying Light 2 developer update is coming next week

Back from the dead

Few games have had as rough of a development period as Dying Light 2. Announced at E3 2018, the game was originally going to launch in 2020. It was then swiftly delayed indefinitely with no release window. The game has remained in that state to this day, with multiple departures and a major scandal hitting developer Techland during the time since. Suffice to say, the fate of Dying Light 2 has been extremely murky since its delay. However, it seems like we’re finally going to be learning more about the game. A development update for Dying Light 2 was announced today on Twitter, the first such update in recent history.

The Dying Light 2 developer update will arrive first on the game’s Discord server. An hour later, whatever update Techland provides on its troubled title will be released via other venues. Techland’s decision to stagger this news is strange though. Usually, developers will share updates via YouTube or Twitch, instead of catering to a smaller group first. I can’t exactly say that I understand what Techland is looking to get out of a large number of people joining its Discord. Especially when it’s entirely possible that a large portion of that group leaves immediately after the update is given or made available elsewhere.

Reactions on Twitter

While I’m personally excited for any news regarding Dying Light 2, it seems that some others are more skeptical. One Twitter user responding to the announcement post expressed their worry that the game seemed like it was in development Hell. A response from the Dying Light Twitter account immediately denied any such thing. “The definition of a dev hell requires the game to not make any development progress,” reads the reply. “While DL2 keeps moving forward, we announced the game too early but it’s far from being in a dev hell.”

Either way, we’ll see how much progress has been made on the game next Wednesday, March 17. A time for the update has not been revealed.
