PC players excluded from Battlefield 3 tournament

EA and Virgin Gaming have joined together to host an online Battlefield 3 tournament with a combined prize fund of $1.6 million USD; but if you’re a PC player, you won’t be taking part.
Only Xbox 360 and PS3 players are allowed to pre-register for the event through EA and Virgin’s main tournament site. A ‘Virgin Gaming’ account appears to be required, so this is the most likely explanation for the PC exclusion (Virgin Gaming is only open to 360 and PS3 users … and yes, you can fill in your own punchline at this point).
Still, it seems a little cheeky to organise a major Battlefield 3 tournament in which PC players cannot take part. Especially when developer DICE has been so keen to hype up the PC as the main platform for the game.
The Virgin tournament is set to kick off in early 2012, so you should have a bit of time to warm up for it after Battlefield 3 is released in late October.
