Oculus Rift Bundle Gets a Permanent Price Drop

Virtual reality was a pretty big deal last year, and pretty much still is, but the hype surrounding it has seemed to have been cooling off as of late.

One of the more well-known VR headsets out there is the Oculus Rift, which is owned by Facebook. This PC-only headset is of the premium sector and has had a number of games come to it since its initial release back in March 2016. While it’s only been just over a year since it came out, Facebook is already slashing the official MSRP.

The Rift is currently being sold at a discount as part of the ‘Summer Sale’, bringing the price down to $400 for the bundle which includes the headset and the Oculus Touch motion controllers. While this sale is only a limited time offer, the subsequent price-cut will be permanent.

Facebook has confirmed that Rift & Touch bundle will permanently be going for $499 USD after the sale ends. The discount is definitely appreciated, but it makes you wonder if this is a desperate move just to try and push unit sales.

Virtual reality still has a ways to go before it really sweeps the gaming industry, let’s see if the Rift can make waves.
