Sir David Attenborough has been creating nature documentaries for over 50 years and is quite possibly the most accomplished respected broadcaster in the world. He has traveled the world to bring homes around the globe a look at the wonder of nature and his 2006 Planet Earth series was the highest rated TV show on IMDB, until Breaking Bad. He is the only person to have won a BAFTA for programs in black and white, colour, HD and 3D. After all he’s achieved you might assume that at the age of 87 he might consider slowing down but you’d be wrong. It has been announced that Sir Attenborough plans to create the first virtual reality documentaries.
Attenborough will be writing and presenting the project which will be shot in 360 degrees and will be viewed using the Oculus Rift VR headset. The project is called Conquest of the Skies and is being shot in Borneo amongst other locations. Atlantic Productions is developing the project and company commercial director John Morris said of the Oculus Rift: “In terms of the creative challenge, we look at this as being comparable to the beginning of the film industry,”
