What consoles is Final Fantasy 16 releasing on?

Square Enix usually has a tight relationship with Sony and PlayStation, but there are plenty of Final Fantasy titles available on Xbox, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. But what about Final Fantasy 16, do we have an answer to if it’s coming to PC?

For now, the answer is no, Final Fantasy 16 won’t be on PC at launch. But there’s still hope on the horizon! Final Fantasy games have previously had timed exclusives with certain consoles. This means that on launch, a game will only be available on specific consoles for a limited time. On a blogpost on PlayStation’s Japanese blog, Naoki Yoshida, the producer, confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 is a timed exclusive.

But what does this mean for PC players? The blog post stated that until at least six months, Final Fantasy 16 will only be available on PlayStation 5. It also said that in response to the game coming to PC, meaning we know they have plans for a PC release, but not for Xbox. This could change in the future, since the previous mainline Final Fantasy game is on Xbox now. So yes, PC players will get Final Fantasy 16 on their console, but not until at least 6 months later.

This could mean that we get the game on PC around December, or early 2024. But that’s only wishful thinking, because Square Enix has taken longer before to release a game on PC. Looking at Final Fantasy 7 Remake as an example, that was a timed exclusive which came out on PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020, but then released on Epic Games on December 16, 2021, and even later in 2022 on Steam.

Although that would be quite a long time to wait, if you don’t have a PlayStation 5, there’s not much you can do about it. Nevertheless, at least we know Final Fantasy 16 will arrive on PC at some point in the future.

Final Fantasy 16 is available to pre-order as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
