Well, that was unexpected. You read correctly: Final Fantasy VII has finally hit Steam.
Generally considered the best Final Fantasy game by people who haven’t played Final Fantasy VI, FF7 charts the adventures of ex-SOLDIER Cloud. It all starts off with him selling his services to an eco-terrorist group, and inevitably ends up with him and his allies trying to save the planet from an apocalyptic threat. It is, genuinely, pretty damn good if you’re a fan of JRPGs.
The version on Steam appears to be the same PC version that went on sale on Square Enix’s website awhile ago. As such, it features achievements, a character booster to prevent you from getting stuck/getting bored/having to grind, and cloud saving. (Although, curiously, it does appear that cloud saving is basically required – “Uninstalling the game will delete any save files stored locally on your PC”, apparently.)
