A long-running legal case in China has resulted in Blizzard Entertainment and World of Warcraft’s former operators, The9, being ordered to pay 1.5 million RMB to Founder Technology over a copyright issue.

Founder Technology claimed that Blizzard, The9 and two other companies were guilty of copyright infringement for using five of Founder’s registered fonts in China’s version of WoW, back in 2007. The original claim was for 408 million RMB in compensation, but the Beijing Municipal Higher People’s Court ruled that the four companies involved should pay 1.5 million RMB, which is around £142,000 GBP or $212,000 USD.
According to JLM, The9, who lost the licence to operate WoW in China last June, has appealed the court’s decision.
