In an announcement on the official Champions Online site, design director and executive producer Bill Roper explains why the decision was made.

“Through our constant dialogue with our vocal and supportive community of beta testers, we quickly realized that in order to implement certain features that we all considered important the development of Champions Online would require more time.”

He goes on to state that Cryptic is known for releasing solid games, and they want to maintain that with Champions.

This means beta testers will have more time to try out the game, which will now be launched on 1 September instead of the original date of 14 July. Don’t forget to check out our hands-on preview for Champions Online.
