The Seenapsis Studio-developed title, which has been in Steam Early Access for a few months, is finally set for release. The game will arrive on January 16, 2020, and those interested can now wishlist it. There’s also a new trailer that highlights its many features.

What is A Long Way Down all about?

A roguelite RPG built around deck-building mechanics, A Long Way Down has a unique approach to it. It has some traits in common with the indie hit Darkest Dungeon, as well as Hand of Fate and Slay the Spire.

Players will build upon both RPG-based elements and deck-building, making their way through a deadly maze. Sam, the main hero, is up against a dangerous mastermind, who wants nothing but to delve him into darkness. It’s up to you to make the core decisions to keep him safe — and out of said darkness.

After you put together a deck that “will determine how you explore the dungeon and how you defend yourself from the horror it contains,” you’ll need to plot your next moves. This includes going up against a number of “great challenges” within the many hours of play, traveling through the maze. However, you can do so at your own leisure. Will you risk running for the exit, or take your time and see what surprises are in store? You’ll need to use patience, cunning, and planning to make it through.

Along the way, you can upgrade items and equipment. These will lend a hand when it comes to battling the vicious mastermind’s minions. And it just might get you out of the maze. Maybe.

The game is available to wishlist on Steam. Stop by and see if you’ve got what it takes to make it A Long Way Down.
