PSA: AFK XP Farming no longer works in LEGO Fortnite

The end of free BP levels.

Since its launch, LEGO Fortnite has been a great place to earn valuable XP toward your Battle Pass, even if you aren’t playing. At least it was. Many users report that AFK XP Farming no longer works in LEGO Fortnite. Here’s everything you need to know and how to get around it.

What is AFK XP Farming in LEGO Fornite?

Let me quickly explain AFK XP Farming, so we’re all on the same page. You can earn five levels toward your Battle Pass progression daily by playing LEGO Fortnite. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing in the mode. As long as you’re there, you’re earning XP.

Players have been leaving their games on for extended periods to earn XP without playing, which is where the ‘AFK’ part comes in. XP Farming is a contentious issue within the community. Some players swear by it as they don’t have enough time to complete the Battle Pass through regular gameplay. Others see it as lazy or an exploit.

Why does AFK XP Farming no longer work in LEGO Fortnite?

A recent update has introduced an AFK timer to LEGO Fortnite. This means you’ll be disconnected from the server if you stand still for too long. I’ve read conflicting reports on how long it takes to get booted from the game, but you’ll get kicked before any XP is earned.

Is there a way around the AFK timer?

You can usually bypass an AFK timer by holding a movement button, so you’re always moving in the game. If you’re using a Controller, a popular method is tying a rubber band around the right stick so your character spins on the spot. As long as you’re turning or walking into a wall, this typically stops you from getting kicked for inactivity.

The issue is that these common methods don’t seem to work in LEGO Fortnite anymore. Well-known Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey has explained that changes have been made to how the game checks if you’re AFK. As this is leaked information, take it with a grain of salt, but it does align with what players are experiencing.

Details are vague, but clever players have discovered a method that works for now. If you craft a launch pad and carefully jump in the middle, you’ll constantly bounce without falling off. Moving in this way seems to bypass any checks, and users report earning XP as usual.

You can make a Launch Pad with the following materials:

Will I get in trouble for AFK XP farming in LEGO Fortnite?

Epic Games has the final say, but I doubt there will be any repercussions for XP farming. Instead of warning players or issuing bans, the developers seem determined to stop AFK farming from working completely. If players were going to be punished, it would have happened already.

Some may be disappointed by the AFK fixes, but LEGO Fortnite has recently received a much-needed update. Powered vehicles are a superb addition, and you can make simple cars to cruise around the map with minimal effort. If you can’t go AFK, you may as well enjoy the best parts of the update.
