Are Bungie servers down?

Is there a way to check Bungie server status?

Until Bungie puts out more games (I’m looking at you, Marathon), the only games the Bungie servers affect are Destiny 1 and 2. Hold on tight, because I’m going to teach you how to learn if the Bungie servers are down or if it’s an issue on your end.

How to check Bungie server status

Whenever you come across an error in a game, it’s usually caused by an issue on the developer’s side. However, you need to check credible sources to confirm. Since this is an evergreen article that won’t get updated every time the Bungie servers go down, I’ll teach you how to check the Bungie server status yourself.

Check Bungie Help on Twitter

The first place I recommend checking to confirm if Bungie’s servers are down is Bungie Help on Twitter/X. Bungie Help is the official place to learn about server issues, bugs, and fixes.

It’s extremely common for Bungie servers to go offline sometime on Tuesdays. This happens every single week because the developer conducts maintenance and implements weekly updates to their games. Usually, Bungie Help is explicit on its time frame for when its servers will be online. They rarely go over that time, but it does happen.

Check Destiny Down Detector

If you aren’t finding anything on Bungie Help, you can check the Destiny Down Detector page to see user outage reports. The dedicated Destiny Down Detector page offers a helpful graph showing when other players reported server issues. You can see if the issues are related to server connection, website, or gameplay. you can also scroll down to see the comments of other players.

I find Down Detector to be a very helpful source when I am trying to determine if a game’s servers are offline or if it’s an issue on my end. If you find nothing on Bungie Help or Down Detector, the server issues you may be experiencing could be on your end.

The classic fixes I recommend are restarting the game, restarting your device, checking your internet connection, verifying your files, and possibly reinstalling the game. These are the fixes that eliminate errors 90% of the time, so they are all worth a try.
