Baldur’s Gate 3: Can you preload and transfer save files?

Sadly, the answer to both of these questions is a no. We know for sure that your Early Access save files will not carry over to the full version. On the other hand, there’s no definitive information yet on whether you can preload Baldur’s Gate 3, although the Early Access version is still available.

The full version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will take up 150 GB of space, which is quite hefty. According to ‘WolfheartFPS‘ on YouTube, the Director Swen Vincke stated this: “The answer to that [whether you should keep Early Access installed or not] according to Swen, is it probably won’t help you at all with the main installation. The main installation files are going to be so different you’re basically going to be redownloading the entire game, so if you want to uninstall the game, go ahead.”

There is some good news though. If you were someone who bought the Early Access version, or if you buy Baldur’s Gate 3 anytime before release, you’ll get a free upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition! This was confirmed in another Tweet by Larian Studios. Despite not being able to keep old save files, and having no information yet on preloading, you should purchase Baldur’s Gate 3 before release for this free upgrade.
