Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release ‘still on schedule’ for 2023, CEO confirms

The Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox release is in sight!

While PC and PlayStation 5 players have been thoroughly enjoying my personal game of the year, Baldur’s Gate 3, Xbox players are still waiting patiently. Good news! Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke, confirmed Baldur’s Gate 3’s Xbox release is “still on schedule” for 2023.

When is the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date?

Swen Vincke just got back from his first holiday in years (which I’m very glad to hear, he absolutely deserves a vacation) and one of his first Tweets back was an update on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date.

Though we still don’t have a concrete Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date, we do have the assurance from the CEO of the makers of Baldur’s Gate 3 himself that the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release is still scheduled to release in 2023.

Once Larian Studios finishes playtesting Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox, which is what they are currently doing, and are satisfied with the performance, they will reveal the official Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date.

It shouldn’t be long now — I would expect to see the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date set for late November or early December. That’s just my guess but it is nice knowing Larian Studio’s CEO is confident that Baldur’s Gate 3 will come to Xbox before January 1, 2024.

Why is the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release taking so long?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a current-gen only game, meaning it’s only playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and soon Xbox Series X and S. Though Larian Studios doesn’t need to jump through hoops to make sure Baldur’s Gate 3 is enjoyable on current-gen and last-gen consoles, it does need to make sure it runs well on Xbox Series X and S.

The issue here is that, though it is current-gen, the Xbox Series S has more technical limitations compared to the Xbox Series X. Particularly, Larian Studios has struggled to ensure split-screen co-op works well on Xbox Series S.

Once this is resolved, we’ll get the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date. It’s only a matter of time now…
