These Invocations are features you can acquire that upgrade your Warlock build in some way. To create the best build for Wyll, your Blade of Frontiers companion, you’ll need to know which Eldritch Invocations to obtain.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 best Eldritch Invocations, ranked (BG3)

By Warlock level 12, you can have access to six Eldritch Invocations. They go from buffing your Eldritch Blast cantrip to giving you exciting new spells to play with, and other bonuses. Although there are 19 in total, I’ve narrowed this down to the top 10 best options.

10. Beast Speech

As someone who loved playing a Druid, the Speak with Animals spell is actually very important for BG3. This is because speaking to animals can give you certain quests or information that you would’ve been left out of otherwise.

If no one else in your party knows Speak with Animals, take the Beast Speech Eldritch Invocation. You also don’t need to expend a spell slot to cast it.

9. Fiendish Vigor

With the Fiendish Vigor Eldritch Invocation, your Warlock can cast False Life on themselves at will. You also don’t need to waste a spell slot, and it’ll give you seven temporary hit points.

Being able to take this Invocation as early as level 2 is great because those seven HP could lead to barely surviving a fight. I’ve put it lower on the ranking just because once you reach higher levels it’s not a lot of HP anymore, making it less useful.

8. Otherworldly Leap

You don’t realize how often you need a long jumping distance until you start getting further into BG3. Otherworldly Leap will teach you the Enhance Leap, which is actually a Ritual spell. This means that it won’t expend any spell slots.

Enhance Leap will triple your Warlock’s jump distance, which comes in handy a lot more than you may realize. This can mean jumping onto a high platform or perhaps leaping over a large chasm.

7. Thief of Five Fates

Bane is a pretty useful spell that can debuff your enemies. With the Thief of Five Fates Invocation, you can cast Bane. The only downside is that you can cast it once per Long Rest.

But Bane is great in the fact that it’ll force a 1d4 penalty to attack rolls and saving throws on up to three targets. It’s quite often that just a couple of points off an attack roll will save you from getting hit.

6. Minions of Chaos

Again, as someone who played a Druid, I loved casting spells that summoned elemental creatures. Minions of Chaos allows your Warlock to cast Conjure Elemental using a Warlock spell slot.

Once you reach level 9, you’ll gain access to this cool Eldritch Invocation which allows you to summon an Air, Earth, Water, or Fire Myrmidon. They have a ton of HP, a high AC, and have some incredible attacks.

5. Repelling Blast

Eldritch Blast is probably the most common spell you’ll ever use as a Warlock since it’s a cantrip you can cast without limit. The Repelling Blast Invocation will upgrade this cantrip and give you a toggleable passive.

Repelling Blast pushes targets up to 4.5m away. The cool thing about this is how you can use it to push enemies off of ledges and cliffs. Being able to pick this at level 2 is pretty sweet as well.

4. Whispers of the Grave

Speak with Dead is an incredible spell that is crucial for any party to have. Do you know how many dead bodies you come across in BG3? Well, with Whispers of the Grave, you gain access to Speak with Dead, which allows you to ask five questions to a corpse.

Having the ability to ask a dead body for important information will come in handy more times than you can count. If no one in your party has this spell, make sure your Warlock gets this sometime after level 9.

3. Life Drinker

If you’re playing a Warlock who also deals melee attacks often, Life Drinker is an essential Eldritch Invocation. Only available at level 12, this will add your Charisma modifier to the damage you deal on melee weapon attacks.

This damage comes out as Necrotic damage, too. By this point, your CHA modifier should be pretty high, and it will give you a nice little boost to the damage you deal through melee attacks.

2. Armor of Shadows

If your Warlock is only wearing clothes, and not Light Armor, Armor of Shadows is an excellent choice for an Eldritch Invocation. You gain the ability to cast Mage Armor at will, without expending any spell slots.

Mage Armor will increase your Armor Class when not wearing Armor. So essentially it’ll increase your AC to 13, and add your DEX modifier. This can be a lot better for your AC than wearing Light Armor, and getting to cast it at will is necessary for entering fights.

1. Agonizing Blast

Agonizing Blast takes first place in the Eldritch Invocations ranking. This is simply because it buffs the best tool a Warlock has, which is Eldritch Blast. Agonizing Blast will add your CHA modifier to the damage of all your Eldritch Blast beams.

Although you can have this as early as level 2, once you get to late-game combat, your Warlock will be at a high enough level to cast multiple Eldritch Blast beams per action. Just imagine how much extra damage you can deal with that many beams.
