Best ways to use Mage Hand in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Did you just touch me?

Anyone familiar with playing Dungeons & Dragons outside of the Baldur’s Gate series will understand the use of cantrips and spells outside of battle. The huge array of tricks available can be just as effective in the environment the game is set in. With Mage Hand in Baldur’s Gate 3, many people will often overlook its usefulness. However, utilized properly, it can be a real benefit, and sometimes an essential tool, to get where you want.

Mage Hand uses in Baldur’s Gate 3

The trick is to be inventive. See the Mage Hand as a way of being able to manipulate things way outside of your grasp. You no longer need to be beside the thing you would usually use your hands on. Now you get the idea; here are some neat tricks for the Mage Hand.

Manipulate levers in Baldur’s Gate 3

You may notice a number of levers or buttons that sit just out of your reach. Bars and traps will often be in the way of progress. However, with the Mage Hand, you can easily reach over walls, through gates, and over traps to activate levers and buttons.

Out-of-combat Mage Hand damage

If you can see enemies within the 18-meter range of your Mage Hand, you can use it to drop items like rocks and barrels on their heads. Keeping your characters hidden when you do this will allow you to not only confuse the enemies but also take down their health before you reveal yourselves.

Ledges

The Mage Hand is a great way to ruin an enemy’s day by pushing them off a ledge. A little sneaky sneaks to get within the 18-meter range, and then, bam. You can dispatch enemies very quickly this way without giving yourself away in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Disarm Traps with the Mage Hand

If you don’t really fancy your sleight-of-hand skills and need to disarm a trap, the Mage Hand is your best friend. If it messes up the disarming, as long as you’re all far enough away, it’s all good. Just blow it up and try again.

What can’t the Mage Hand do in Baldur’s Gate 3

A few players are a bit upset about the fact that Larian Studios has apparently nerfed the Mage Hand for Baldur’s Gate 3. In D&D, the Mage Hand can go invisible, pick locks and pockets, and open chests. However, Larian has decided to keep this out. A number of players think this makes the Mage Hand totally void, but I think, with a little inventiveness, it still has a lot of use.
