Best weapons in Star Ocean: The Second Story R

Become truly broken with these weapons.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R has dozens of weapons for all 13 of the available party members. And while you can only get most of them after you’ve beaten the game, some are available before you roll credits.

So here are the best weapons to find in Star Ocean: The Second Story R.

Where to find the best weapons in Star Ocean: The Second Story R

The entirety of this list will be comprised of the final weapons for each party member. Now, for certain builds, these weapons still won’t technically be the best in all situations. But in terms of raw stats and basic gameplay, these weapons are the best you can get in simple terms.

The only real downside is that none of them come with a factor, but you can always use the Remaking Super Speciality to have a chance of applying a factor of your choosing. Just prepare to reload your save until the RNG gods give you the factor you want.

Claude

The best weapon for Claude in Star Ocean: The Second Story R is the Planeteer and this can be acquired by completing A True Survival Battle in Fun City Arena after completing the Maze of Tribulations. It takes quite a lot of work to get this weapon as you can see. But if you’re hungering for a great weapon before then try making the Aeterna.

Rena

Rena’s best weapon is called the Love Force, and similarly to the Planeteer, you get this in Fun City by completing a Group Battle. The specific Group Battle is the Ten Wise Man Marathon fight. Now the good news is that you don’t need to have beaten the Maze of Tribulations to unlock this match. So you can get this before you get Planeteer.

Celine

Celine’s best weapon is called the Volticry+ and it arguably takes the most work to get. You need to catch all 66 types of fish in the game, speak to Reel, and unlock it from her set of rewards. You’ll need to have caught all the fish in Expel before moving on to Nede if you hope to get this weapon before finishing the game. If you didn’t manage to do that you can still get it during the post-game run.

Welch

For Welch, you’ll find her best weapon in B4 of the Maze of Tribulations. It sounds pretty self-explanatory but this room has a bunch of weapons that all need to be analyzed. One of them will be the Gutsy Hand Stick.

Ashton

Ashton, Creepy, and Weepy (they all deserve the spotlight) can get their best weapon as part of the Cooking Master minigame in Fun City. You need to get a total of 100,000 points so again this might take you a little while to complete. But in return, you’ll get the Souen & Guren for Ashton.

Dias

Dias’ best weapon is the Hachimentei and it can be acquired before he even joins the party technically. However, you likely won’t be able to do it since it’s the reward for beating the Ultra Aulbear Raid. Raids are encounters against extremely strong enemies on the world map. And you can find them by looking out for a stationary enemy with a red glow. You can certainly try and get this weapon early on, but it might be best saved for the post-game when you can make proper use of it if Dias is in your party.

Bowman

Bowman’s best weapon in Star Ocean: The Second Story R is the Heart of Hearts which is found in a chest to the northwest of Eluria Tower in Expel. Unfortunately, you need the Psynard to open the chest so it’s only available in the post-game.

Opera

The AAM Clip is Opera’s best weapon and to get it you need to complete 80% of the Enemy Encyclopedia. As long as you fight plenty of battles you should be able to get this by the end of the game. Just make sure you fight every available enemy on the world map and in dungeons. You can pick it up beside the final dungeon in the game.

Precis

Precis’ best weapon is called the Roaring Burst Puncher and it’s one of the hardest in the game to get since it requires you beating the Ultra Ogre Raid. And this is one of the tougher Raids in the game. It’s also only available in the post-game so you have plenty of time to prepare your party. It would probably be a good idea to get some of the other weapons on this list first.

Ernest

The best weapon for Ernest in Star Ocean: The Second Story R is the Glorious Thorn and it’s acquired by beating the Ultra Crimson Beast Raid in Expel. It’s found next to the Maze of Tribulations and is exclusive to the post-game. Once again you should probably try for this once you get some other weapons on this list.

Chisato

For Chisato’s best weapon, the Variable Volt, you must find 30 unique spots in the game and redeem the challenge in the Missions menu. Unique spots are denoted by the golden light you can find next to certain sights in the game. They’re dotted all over the place so keep a close eye out for them as you play the game.

Noel

For the Natural Vice, you’ll need to complete 65 Guild Missions and claim that challenge in the Missions menu. It’s likely that you’ll complete the game before being able to finish all the Guild Missions but I wouldn’t worry about that too much. Just acquire it in the post-game when you have the chance.

Leon

Finally, Leon’s best weapon in Star Ocean: The Second Story R is called the Fourth Book of Occult Prophecy and you’d be right in thinking that a child probably shouldn’t have a book with that name. Leon does good work with it though so I can’t complain too much. You can acquire it by defeating the Ultra Wizard Raid in Expel on the same island as the Maze of Tribulations. Again I’d recommend finding some other weapons on this list to make the Raid a little easier.

And there you have the best weapons for each character in Star Ocean: The Second Story R. As I said earlier, some of these weapons may not be the best depending on your specific builds. But for players who are going through this game for the first time and don’t want to think too hard, you’ll be more than fine with these weapons in the post-game.
