Darkwood Free Epic

Darkwood, a survival horror gem is free this week on the Epic Games Store

You get a free game, you get a free game!

Get ready to be scared because Darkwood goes free of charge to all users this week on the Epic Games Store. Darkwood is a new take on survival horror, one without jump scares from developer Acid Wizard.

In Darkwood, you scavenge and explore an ever changing free-roam world by day before taking shelter during the night where terrifying monsters await you. The game harkens back to the old days, the days where there were no quest markers, you had to find your way, and the difficulty was brutal.

Breaking down Darkwood further, it has a resource management system, and you must constantly scavenge for new resources to improve your survival chances. The world has random generation, so every playthrough will be an entirely different experience. Make sure not to stray too far from the light, though, as horrifying monsters await in the night.

What else can I get free on the Epic Games Store this week?

Aside from Darkwood coming free to the Epic Games Store this week, gamers can also snag ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! from HumaNature Studios. This game is a sequel to the original 1991 classic. It’s described as a “funky fresh rogue-lite adventure infused with old skool hip-hop and jam-packed with awesome throwbacks.”

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! is an isometric style game, with great co-op replay-ability. The game touts modern improvements to a retro format, which is a trend in gaming recently, sharing common ground with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. This cartoon-like game is a no-brainer to pick up this week for free on the Epic Games Store, alongside of Darkwood

The sale for Darkwood and ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! ends October 20th, and next week, Evoland Legendary Edition, and Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition will be free on the Epic Games Store.
