Look out! That barn/grass/abandoned vehicle is going to kill you!

The DayZ developers show no intention whatsoever of rushing the project, as a new blog post makes clear. In it, the team reiterate the very early nature of the game and urge people not to buy the Early Access version unless they understand what playing an Alpha build entails. DayZ will probably be in Alpha for quite some time too, as the posts adds “we do not expect to reach Beta status sooner than the end of 2014.”

That hasn’t stopped the game shifting around 875,000 copies since its release in December of last year, and the team profess to be “very surprised to see such interest as this clearly is not a game for everyone.”

The rest of the post has some details about what improvements and changes will be made to DayZ in the near furture (the latter half of January,) which include the following:

  • Server performance, stability and security
  • Animals & hunting
  • Cooking & gathering resources
  • Playable user customizable vehicles
  • Player created constructions in the environment
  • More complex interactions with the environment and crafting options
  • Streamlined user actions and interface
  • Control and animations expanded and improved for fluidity
  • Upgraded graphics and physics engine (including ragdoll, etc.)
  • Support of user mods and more flexibility for user hosted servers and game types
