Ark Survival Ascended reworks the popular survival game from Studio Wildcard, and some fans are wondering whether they’ll need to re-purchase DLC to enjoy the extended adventures they once had. Which Ark Survival Evolved DLC will carry over into Ark Survival Ascended?
Ark Survival Ascended – which Evolved DLC is included?
Ark Survival Evolved, released in Early Access in 2015, subsequently expanded with several DLC packs. The most recent of those expansions, the two-part Genesis, hit a few months ahead of Ark Survival Evolved’s appearance on the Epic Games Store in mid-2020.
On the Ark Survival Evolved store page on Steam, Studio Wildcard promises that, “Ascended includes access to all of ARK’s worlds.” The developer specifically names many of the Evolved expansion packs and ends by offering those sweetest two words: “–and more.”

A DLC roll call
Presently, the Steam store page for ARK Survival Ascended mentions remakes of the following expanded content in Unreal Engine 5:
- Survival of the Fittest (Battle Royale)
- Scorched Earth
- Aberration
- Extinction
- Genesis Part 1
- Genesis Part 2
Additionally, the developer promised to bring back the following free DLC for the newer release:
- The Center
- Ragnarok
- Valguero
- Crystal Isles
- Lost Island
- Fjordur
Those maps also will receive “one completely new creature nominated by the community.” Finally, the developer promises original story content, tied to future DLC. There will be other post-launch additions, as well.
The inclusion of the free and paid expansions, as well as added content in the future, should make Ark Survival Ascended the game’s definitive release ahead of the eventual arrival of ARK 2. If you’re like me and have steered clear of the series and its numerous worlds, this sounds like the perfect time to jump into them. Even if you’ve already had numerous adventures in the ARK universe, the opportunity to enjoy them again — now with a fresh coat of paint — could prove difficult to resist.
