Elden Ring guide – Church of Dragon Communion and Dragon Hearts

Dragon Hearts in Elden Ring are dropped by, you guessed it, dragon bosses. Examples include Flying Dragon Agheel in Limgrave, the Glintstone Dragon in Liurnia of the Lakes, Magma Wyrm Makar in the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, the other Makar fella in Volcano Manor, and many more. However, we still need to find a way to make them useful, especially if you’re playing as a caster.

The Coastal Cave

For that, we’ll need to find the Church of Dragon Communion in Elden Ring. First, make your way to the Coastal Cave dungeon in Limgrave. To get there, fast travel to the Church of Elleh and find a sloping path that leads to the beach. You should encounter a few demi-human mobs in front of the cavern’s entrance, and dozens more are waiting in the caverns.

Note: There’s a merchant sitting cozy under a rock formation just south of the cave’s entrance. He sells a Shortbow if you still need a ranged weapon.

When you reach the boss arena, you’ll be able to summon Old Knight Istvan (no, he’s not the guy who blasted the Loyalist Space Marine chapters). This NPC can help you battle the two Demi-Human Chieftain bosses. Prioritize these guys and take them out quickly, since that will cause the remaining mobs to cower in fear.

Note: You’ll also receive the Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle, which can be used to alter the looks of your armor pieces.

Instead of going back to the entrance, continue along the passageway until you find the exit. You should notice that you’re on an island across the beach. Activate the Site of Grace here to avoid any hassles in case you want to return to this spot in the future.

Next, enter the ruined building to see several dead dragons and an altar. The altar in Elden Ring‘s Church of Dragon Communion is where you’ll exchange the Dragon Hearts for nifty spells. These include:

  • Dragonfire (Fai 15 and Arc 12) – Frontal dragon breath.
  • Dragonclaw (Fai 17 and Arc 13) – Quick swipes to damage foes.
  • Dragonmaw (Fai 24 and Arc 16) – Biting your opponents.
