The Grand Lift of Rold is one of the areas that you can visit in Elden Ring. It also contains a fairly important secret, a passageway that leads to an entirely new zone. Here’s our Elden Ring guide to help you obtain the Haligtree Secret Medallion for the Grand Lift of Rold.

Elden Ring guide – Where to get the Haligtree Secret Medallion for the Grand Lift of Rold

The Grand Lift of Rold in Elden Ring is visited after you’ve cleared Leyndell Royal Capital. With Morgott the Omen King defeated, you think you’ll have an easy shot at entering the Erdtree in the court. However, you’re barred from passing through. But, once you rest at a Site of Grace, Melina tells you that you have to venture further to the Forgotten Lands and the Mountaintop of the Giants.

Here’s the gist if you haven’t been to the Grand Lift of Rold yet:

  • From the East Capital Rampart, ride the lift down and exit the building. Turn left and follow the road to the east. It should lead you outside the gate where dozens of mobs are waiting.
  • Head up the steps and continue onward until you’re at the Capital Outskirts. When you reach the large building, you have two options:
    • One path takes you to the Divine Tower of Leyndell where you can activate Morgott’s Great Rune, but there’s also a tough fight here.
    • The other takes you to the Forgotten Lands, which is our main goal.

The Forgotten Lands is covered in fog, making it tough to navigate. But, if you follow the road and look at your map regularly, you should see the Grand Lift of Rold soon enough. Now, we can go two ways:

  • Normally, the Grand Lift of Rold in Elden Ring will only take you to the Mountaintop of Giants using a medallion given to you by Melina.
  • But, there’s another path that we can unlock, and that’s what we’ll discuss here.

Elden Ring Haligtree Secret Medallion – Left half

Since you’re already at the Grand Lift of Rold in Elden Ring, I suggest forging ahead. Travel along the roads and mountain passes until you arrive at Castle Sol.

There, you’ll fight Commander Niall. He’s a tough fella due to having a couple of soldiers as backup. The soldier who’s dual-wielding is very aggressive, but you can counter his moves. The shielded guy also won’t pose too much of a threat. But, if they all corner you, then you’re in for a world of hurt.

After taking out the two soldiers, Commander Niall will gain a couple of abilities, including a Lightning Stomp. This is a deadly attack, so make sure you dodge just as he’s about to land.

Beating Commander Niall nets you the Veteran’s Prosthesis weapon.

Even better, you’ll be able to head to the battlements. There, you’ll meet a spirit with the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left).

Elden Ring Haligtree Secret Medallion – Right half

The second one is actually easier to obtain, as all you need to do is go to the Village of the Albinaurics, one of the places in the game that has a Larval Tear out in the open. But, to find what we’re looking for, we need to head to the fast travel point. From there, run up the sloping path until you see a large jar.

If you hit it, it will turn into an Albinauric NPC. It will give you the other half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion in Elden Ring.

Note: The NPC will also tell you to visit a woman who seems to know more about the medallion. That person, Latenna, is found in the Slumbering Wolf’s Shack past Lakeside Crystal Cave (which I’ve also encircled in the image below). To clarify, though, I was too far along in my campaign that the person was already gone when I got there (I only received Latenna the Albinauric as a Spirit Ash summon). Thankfully, it didn’t lock me out or anything.

Back at the Grand Lift of Rold in Elden Ring

With both pieces of the Haligtree Secret Medallion in Elden Ring, you can make your way back to the Grand Lift of Rold. Stand in front of the status and press “1” or “2” to change the dialogue option. It should say that you can use the Haligtree Secret Medallion instead. The tablet and statues should glow green as opposed to red the first time you did this.

After the cinematic, you’ll find yourself in a dingy castle. Pick up some loot or fight foes if you want. As you head outside, the thick mist will envelop you. Keep rechecking the map periodically to see if you’re still following the road.

Eventually, you’ll see the map stele. Further north, you’ll see the next destination if you want to travel to Miquella’s Haligtree. It’s Ordina Lithurgical Town and it has a puzzle for you to solve. Alternatively, you can go west to find a teleporter that leads to Mohgwyn Palace.
