The Moonfire Faire is back and live in FFXIV from August 10 until 26. Instead of beach glamours or fun dances, this year Power Rangers become real in Eorzea. Because why not, I suppose? Whether you’re a fan of any of the series or not, it’s time to get a costume and live out your inner eight year old. Here’s the Moonfire Faire 2023 guide.

Moonfire Faire 2023 guide: Start and prerequisites

Unlike most seasonal events, your character must be level 30 and not level 15. Keep this in mind. Like all Moonfire Faire quests, the first quest starts in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks at (11.5, 13.8). It’s called ‘Allergic to Sunshine’ and the NPC is a Lalafell named Mayaru Moyaru.

Once you accept the quest, teleport or ferry over to Costa Del Sol and fly or swim to the usual island Moonfire Faire takes place on, behind the docks of Costa Del Sol. You’re looking for Haermaga (35.5, 20.1), who you’ll recognize if you did previous years.

Haermaga explains to deal with the various problems each Faire, such as drowning or giant sea monsters, he is inventing the role of Sunshine Savior. Now you have to meet him again back over next to the Costa Del Sol Aetheryte (31.6, 30.5). How did he get all the way over there?

After the cutscene, jump down to the rocks just below at (31.7, 30.2) and watch another cutscene. Either dialogue option you pick during it is fine, Lyonell won’t be deterred if you don’t like his new costume.

When it ends, talk to Lyonell to complete the first quest and start your advice giving journey. You earn 3120 EXP and 673 gil for completing it. Now pick up ‘I Am the Sunshine’ from Haermaga next to you.

After cutscene, fly back over to the island and talk to Beaudefoin at (35.6, 26.4) to start a cutscene minigame.

Advising the Sunshine Savior Cutscene

Help Lyonell navigate situations on the beach. Each has a fixed outcome, but the way you reach it sometimes varies.

R’fhul and R’majha: These familiar faces from previous events are back at it with R’fhul trying the Eorzea Nimble Warrior course.

  • Show him how a Sunshine Savior does it! You suggest to Lyonell to do the obstacle course himself. He says no and goes to encourage him.
  • Give him some words of encouragement! Lyonell listens to you and goes to cheer him up.
  • Leave him be. He’ll learn more by lifting himself up. Lyonell doesn’t listen to you and goes to encourage him.

Carvallain and Rhoswen: The pirate duo are at it again with their will they won’t they romance. Did they learn nothing from the 2022 Gold Saucer event?

  • Just ask if something’s the matter. Lyonell tries to approach her. She’s spotted by Carvallain and runs away.
  • Don’t worry about her. Worry about the man! The objectively funniest option, Lyonell goes to warn Carvallain about her approaching and she runs away.
  • We should watch from a safe distance. Lyonell will not intervene. Rhoswen gives up on approaching him and walks away.

The muscle men:

  • Tell them to find a spot of shade to rest in. Lyonell ushers them off, but they insist they’re fine.
  • Tell them to drink plenty of fluids. Pretty much the same as above.
  • Look at all those muscles. They’ll be fine. Lyonell intervenes anyhow.

For the last situaion, neither prompt changes the cutscene. Lyonell dives in. Now run back to Haermaga in his usual spot.

During the final cutscene, whichever encouragement shouted won’t change the outcome. Sit back and enjoy Lyonell’s rise into a Power Ranger.

Then talk to him after.

Return to Haermaga one last time to complete the quest. You gain 3210 exp 530 gil, the Phoenix Riser helmet and costume, and the achievement ‘Hot Bird Summer’.

Moonfire Faire 2023 guide: Bonus content

The Moonfire Faire Vendor near Haermaga only sells various types of confetti. Besides that, there’s no further rewards. The Eorzea Nimble Warrior course is only there for the fun of it. New to this year, you can talk to the NPCs labelled ‘Faire Adventurer’ to skip the parts of the course if you don’t feel like doing them. However, you can also spot some fun things in the event area.
