Hellboy Web Of Wyrd Trailer Statue Enemy

Hellboy: Web of Wyrd revealed with a comic-accurate teaser trailer

A true playable comic book.

During the opening 30 minutes of The Game Awards, publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment and developer Upstream Arcade unveiled a brief announcement trailer for their upcoming rogue-lite Hellboy: Web of Wyrd. This action-adventure game will boast an original story resulting from a collaboration between Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Dark Horse Comics.

The trailer shows off the striking comic book style of Hellboy: Web of Wyrd in all its glory. Everything from the characters to the environments comes drenched in hard shadows and solid blocks of color. At the very least, it seems that many will find this game worth playing just for the visuals alone.

The only snippet of gameplay shown depicts the titular Hellboy brawling a big wolf-like creature from an over-the-shoulder perspective. According to the Steam page, the game’s combat emphasizes combining melee and ranged attacks together to lay waste to a variety of horrific foes. The Steam page does not go into much information regarding the game’s rogue-lite elements.

An episodic experience

Notably, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd’s story echoes the ones from the comics in that it consists of several smaller stories combined together. Although players can enjoy all of these stories independently, they all share a common thread in the form of the Butterfly House. This mysterious residence serves as a gateway into a dimension simply known as the Wyrd. When a B.P.R.D. agent ventures into the Butterfly House and ends up missing, Hellboy has to go and investigate.

Of course, being a bizarre dimension, the Wyrd takes Hellboy through all sorts of fantastical locations. Each of these areas pits Hellboy against an assortment of dangerous monsters and godlike beings. Although the road ahead won’t be easy, Hellboy will find plenty of treasures and secrets that will justify the struggle. However, he shouldn’t let this get to his head, as an ancient evil is waiting to be unleashed.
